Lazaro Vela (Spanish Land Grantee, Porcion 57)


GENERATION 1
According to "Petra's Legacy: The South Texas Ranching Empire of Petra Vela and Mifflin Kennedy," by Jane Clements Monday and Frances Brannen Vick, Don Lazaro Vela, the son of Captain Francisco Vela and Maria Ortiz , was born 1721 in Cerralvo. He was granted Porcion 57 in the jurisdiction of Mier, Tamaulipas in what is now Starr County in 1767. He married Maria Antonia de la Garza (or Maria Antonia Garcia).

GENERATION 2
Maria Gertrudis Vela, daughter of Lazaro Vela and Maria Antonia de la Garza, married Juan Pantaleon Isaguirre (or Yzaguirre). According to "Petra's Legacy," Maria Gertrudis Vela's death record indicates that she died on 12 Aug 1789 at age 40 due to a poisonous snake bite, apparently a fact of life on the frontier.


GENERATION 3
Maria Antonia Yzaguirre, daughter of Juan Pantaleon Yzaguirre and Maria Gertrudis Yzaguirre, was born __________. She married Jose Miguel Ramirez (Agua Nueva de Arriba grantee), son of Jose Cristobal Ramirez and Maria Matiana Hinojosa on 08 Jan 1783 in Mier, Tamaulipas.
