Monterrey Founder Connections to Mexico City

The purpose of this page is show the Mexico City roots of various founders of Monterrey and Saltillo, based on primary sources such as the original baptism, marriage and death records. If you know of any such founders not listed on this page, and have copies of the original documents, please let me know and I'll add them.

INES DE MONTEMAYOR RODRIGUEZ (maybe!)
MARIA DE MONTEMAYOR RODRIGUEZ, daughter of _______ de Montemayor and Ines Rodriguez, was baptized in Mexico City (Asuncion Sagrario Metropolitano (Centro)) on 23 July 1553. There are two points to make about this record. First, although the father's name is not listed, I think there is an argument that the father was Diego de Montemayor who did marry an Ines Rodriguez. Second, although this baptism is for "Maria," could it be for Maria Ines Rodriguez, who was a daughter of Diego de Montemayor and Ines Rodriguez? Please let me know what you think in the comments.

MONTEMAYOR REFERENCE IN 1553 MEXICO CITY BAPTISM RECORD
This baptism from 1553 in Mexico City, for a Jeronima de Campos, lists the following witnesses: Cristobal de Onate, Hernan Perez de Bocanegra, and Antonio de la Cadena. In addition, there is a person listed where I can't read the first name, but the last name is "de Montemayor." Please let me know if you can make out what the first name is and let me know if the comments below. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  2. Maria Inez Rodriguez Carbajal de Montemayor 1550-1593 was the daughter of Gov. Diego "El Viejo" de Montemajor and Ines Rodrigues 1531-1556. Maria Inez married Captain Baltazar Juan CastaƱo de Sosa 1537-1595. de Sosa was elected as Mayor of Saltillo in 1583 in Saltillo, Coahuila, New Spain. Baltasar de Sosa was one of the 15 settlers who came with Diego Montemayor when he founded the city of Monterrey in 1596.

    1. no, it is impossible. Diego Rodrigues, son of Baltasar states, his age is 70 around 1620, so Inez can not be the daughter of Montemayor
